It's the last week before the third biggest wrestling event of the year (after Ultima Lucha II and Aztec Warfare II, of course), which means it's time for me to be wrongety wrong wrong wrong about prediction for Wrestlemania weekend. We'll start with NXT Takeover Dallas, because it's sooner, and with only five matches on the card, it's less typing for me.
Austin Aries vs. Baron Corbin
It's Austin's debut match, so he'll be winning. I suspect Corbin's got another year or so of hanging around at just under the main event / NXT Title level before he either has an epiphany or a pink slip. I'm looking forward to seeing Aries show his stuff in NXT, the only problem is, NXT's a little crowded right now, and they've demonstrated an inability to keep multiple top guys busy with only an hour a week to work with.
Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Sami Zayn
With Zayn wrestling at Mania and basicallly a main roster guy now, this should be Nakamura's day. The debuting Japanese "king of strong style" needs to cement his place in the NXT roster, so I suspect we'll see a solid, face vs. face "respect" match with Zayn taking the pin and offering a handshake after.
American Alpha vs. The Revival, NXT Tag Team Championship
Strike while the iron is hot, WWE. Jordan and Gable are killing it right now. They're amazing in the ring, super-over with the crowd, and overcoming an awful tag name and less than ideal entrance music. Put the belts on them, give them a solid run for a few months, then bring them to the main roster and help bolster the moribund tag division up there. American Alpha wins if there's any justice in the world.
Bayley vs. Asuka, NXT Women's Championship
Toughest match of the night to call. So I'm going to cop out and say a shenanigans-based non-finish involving some combination of Emma, Dana Brooke, Nia Jax, and Eva Marie. I don't think they're ready to call Bayley up yet, and I'm not sure Asuka's ready for a title run. So let's push everything 2-3 months down the road and see where things stand then.
Finn Balor vs. Samoa Joe, NXT Championship
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that Samoa Joe wins. It's probably time he got the belt, since I have doubts he's ever going to be called up to the main roster, where he'd basically be just Kevin Owens Lite at this point. And they've been dropping so many hints about the whole Balor Club faction that a title loss, possible heel turn, and main roster callup have to be imminent. Wrestlemania imminent? Maybe, though it'd totally get lost in a show that's already hella overcrowded.
