Weekly Wrasslin' Wroundup (year To Date)

I know the Weekly Wrasslin' Wroundup is supposed to be weekly, but with NXT doing year-end wrapup two weeks ago and the main roster being a goddamned mess, I couldn't do it. But now I sort of can.

I have no idea what they're doing. Well, that's not true. I know what they're doing. They're panicking and changing shit on the fly because of injuries. Most importantly, John Cena's shoulder injury that will keep him out of Wrestlemania. But that's on top of Cesaro's injury (shoulder), Seth Rollins (knee), Sasha Banks (knee), Paige (concussion), Sin Cara (shoulder), Randy Orton (shoulder), Nikki Bella (something), and depending on who you believe, Barrett and/or Rusev.

So they've got Ambrose feuding with Owens for the Intercontinental title, leading to a Last Man Standing match at the Rumble. That's fine. That makes sense. Roman Reigns will be defending the belt in the Rumble match itself, which is weird and messy and maybe an awful idea if he's gonna win it because him singlehandedly dominating last year's Royal Rumble made everyone hate him.

The US Title was won by Kalisto on Raw and lost back to Del Rio on Smackdown with minor Barrett interference because no really the League of Nations is totally still a thing even though any two of the four guys may be MIA at any time. A Rumble rematch would make sense, and Kalisto winning the belt back would be great, but the booking is nutso.

The tag situation is a nightmare. Who are the Dudleys feuding with? Who are the Wyatt's feuding with? Who are the champs, the glorious New Day, feuding with? Who knows, because it's different every show. New Day has a thing going with Jericho sort of, but that's all about the Rumble match. Don't even ask about the Wyatts. Their booking makes me miss the clean simplicity of them picking a new antagonist out of a hat on the first Raw after a PPV and then losing to that antagonist at the next PPV after a month of spookytalk.

The Diva's title is a bit of a bright spot, as they finally turned Charlotte heel, have her feuding with Becky Lynch, and most importantly, Becky Lynch is finally starting to get the crowd reactions she deserves. Not as much as she deserves, but more than she was getting. Of course, all of this is presumably becaus Sasha is rehabbing her knee, so it's a bit haphazard, but it's starting to come together.

Everyone else is just flailing. Heath Slater, Bo Dallas, Adam Rose, and Curtis Axel are now "The Social Outcasts", a modern-day J.O.B. Squad of losers who join forces to beat other losers. Their Smackdown match was an eight-man tag against Goldust, Jack Swagger, Damien Sandow, and Zack Ryder. At least Adam Rose's gossip show died after three installments.

What's Dolph Ziggler doing? Where's Tyler Breeze? Why is Neville poking around in other people's feuds that he has a tangential relationship to from a month or two ago? Flailing and panic behind the scenes is the most likely explanation. Let's hope they get their footing and figure some stuff out once they get through the Rumble.

NXT's back! Samoa Joe, Sami Zayn, and Baron Corbin all want to wrestle for the championship, so they're going to wrestle each other to see who gets to do it!

All the women want to wreslte Bayley for the championship, so they had a sloppy battle royale, and Carmella gets to do it! And Asuka was thrown out due to Eva Marie shenanigans, so maybe Eva Marie will get her head kicked in.

Tommaso Ciampa may be getting a singles push. And Dash and Dawson had their obligatory "beat The Ascension to cement themselves as serious" match, which still works in Full Sail, the only place anyone ever liked The Ascension. They'd better be setting up Jordan and Gable as the next contenders, but I have a feeling Cass and Enzo are going to get another shot and get the belts before Jordan and Gable have their turn.

See? Clean, simple stories about people wanting to wrestle each other. It's not that difficult.
